Automating a gate that is already hung is its own figure. HomeGuide (2023) puts the cost of automating an existing gate at $400 to $5,500.4 Automatic gate installation covers what to settle before the work starts.
Angi puts typical automatic gate repair at $550 to $1,500, with an average of about $900 (May 2026).3 Angi says emergency or after-hours service may add $50 to $200.3 Gate opener repair covers the causes LiftMaster’s troubleshooting chart documents.
Each add-on has its own figure, and the publishers scope them differently. HomeGuide (2023) puts remotes at $75 to $300 each and keypads at $100 to $800.4 HomeGuide (2023) puts an intercom system at $500 to $4,500+ before installation, and Fixr at $1,000 to $7,000.45

Exit sensors are scoped by where they sit. DoorKing places an automatic exit loop 20 to 100 ft from the gate, so the gate is open or opening as the vehicle arrives, and gives 18 by 48 in as the minimum loop size.15 Mighty Mule’s FM138 exit wand has a 12 ft detection field on a 50-ft cable and is placed 3 to 50 ft from the gate.16
Mighty Mule’s own store lists its swing-gate opener kits at $339 to $879,6 and online retailers list the seven operators in the equipment table at $1,329 to $3,192.99 (Sept 24, 2026).78910111213
The gate, the site and the add-ons. The sources price the add-ons directly; for the gate and site, they set what the equipment has to handle:
In Fort Collins, a single gate across a fire apparatus access road must be at least 20 ft wide, or at least 12 ft where the fire apparatus access road is a divided roadway.23 D103.5 items 9 and 10 require electric gate operators, where provided, to be listed to UL 325, and gates intended for automatic operation to be built and installed to ASTM F2200.22 The swing vs. sliding guide compares the two gate types line by line.
It depends on the jurisdiction, so each line stays with its own city or county.
The fire-access guide covers what each fire authority asks of a gate, and the Greeley, Loveland and Windsor pages cover their local rules.
Solar
HomeGuide (2023) says solar-powered gate openers add $400 to $2,000+ to installation costs.4 LiftMaster's LA400UL manual says solar powered gate operator installations are not supported in northern climates due to cold weather and a reduced number of hours of sunlight during the winter months.18 The manual doesn't define 'northern climates'.
